Reviewing Existing Animation - Little Dinosaurs

How does ‘Little Dinosaurs’ attract is audience?

We began at looking at 'Little Dinosaurs'. A childlike animation about dinosaurs. From this we gained knowledge about what is included in animation. We found that we need to consider voice over, music, sound effects and setting as these features are very important in animation.

The theme of this animation is bullying. ‘Little Dinosaurs’ attracts its audience firstly by using a short simple story line that young children can understand and follow without getting bored or confused. They also do not use any long words in ‘the story’ so that un-educated small children can understand and follow them. Furthermore, the colours, setting, and lighting used creates a light hearted, welcoming effect that children can relate to and understand. In addition, the voice over commentary telling the story is said by small children, this allows the watchers to relate to these commentators and understand them better. This immediately shows the audience that this story is aimed at them as one friend is talking to the other. The title suggests to the audience that the dinosaurs involved are young, similar to the target audience. This therefore attracts the audience as the watchers will be able to relate to the characters. The storyline in which the ‘little dinosaurs’ run away to there parents when they are scared of the large dinosaur is something that all small children do at sometime in their childhood, this therefore again relates to the young audience. Furthermore, giggling can be heard from the characters, this emphasises the young audience target as immaturity and excitement is associated with young children. The dinosaurs featured in the short film are in no way scary. This is so that the audience is not alarmed and scared by the dinosaurs as they are only small children.
