Opening and Closing Credits

For the opening of 'Point of Que' we will have a blank snooker table. Then every letter of our title will be made from snooker and pool balls. One letter will be added at a time and then a picture will be taken. Hands will also be seen sometimes in the shots. This shows a proper handmade animation and is an original animation with no technology apart from the cameras to take the shots and computer technology.
As the 'Point of Que' ends, we will have thank you mentions to those who have done voices for our characters. As these names are mentioned, a still shot of the character will be shown. Furthermore, we will have our production company name , ‘Mad Dog Productions’ at the very end to create a brand image.

Reviewing Existing Animation - Looking at Opening and Closing Credits

This animation is called ‘Ant & Len'. This opening scene is very clever as they use ripped up newspaper with the title on them. However, this is just a still shot and then the animation begins from this scene.
This animation has no opening credits, however at the end the producers have closed it with some mentions and thanks to those who are involved.

This animation is called ‘Procrastination’. They open their animation with three different styles of title.

Reviewing Existing Animation - Silent Animation - Tom and Jerry

Silent Animation – Tom and Jerry Dog Trouble

The mouse in this shot is very wary about the trap and his body language and facial expressions shows this as he is tip-toeing and aware of where the trap is and the consequences if he falls or touches it.

In this shot, the cat looks like he is scared of what may happen to his whisker as he falls away. He is backing away as he wants to be away from the pain he’s about to endure.

Facial expressions of both characters express feelings. The cat is looking happy at the prospect of eating the mouse. The mouse looks very scared at the fact he may be eaten. The paw of the cat is in shot to show he is ready to pounce. The body language of the mouse shows he wants to stop and run in the opposite direction.

The dog is asleep in this shot and his facial expression shows he is oblivious to things around him. His body language is still intimidating however as well as his facial expressions as his teeth are still showing and the spikes on his neck. The mouse is again scared and body language shows he is terrified. The position in the air exaggerates his feelings that he wants to get away as quick as possible.

Questionnaire Results

We have distributed our questionnaires to our colleagues. We have received them back with the results they have completed.

We have found that most of our audience is male; therefore we have decided to include only male actors in our production and things that males are interested in such as gangsters.
Furthermore, the age group that completed our questionnaire was between the ages of 15-18. Therefore these are the people we are going to target our production at.
The most popular genre that we found was gangster. Therefore we have decided to make our production genre gangster as this is what popular with the male age group we are targeting.
Another question we included was to where they were most likely to watch a film. The results show us that we will benefit more from distributing our movie in the cinemas to start of with as this is where people more than often go to watch a new film.
To advertise a film we will use social networking sites. This is because that from our questionnaire we have found that this is where most people hear about new films. We will also use word of mouth because it is an easy and cheap way to advertise our film and our target audience talk a lot between themselves.
The actor we base our characters around mainly was Danny Dyer. This was because he was the favourite actor of those who took our questionnaire.
Our credits will consist of action. This is because it is popular with our target audience as it is what they enjoy and hook them on the film.
Our questionnaire also shows us that we will benefit from including contemporary music in our production as this is what they enjoy.

Reviewing Existing Animation - Magic Box

Story: Two children playing with toys outside. One gets jealous of the other one with his toy. He asks to play with it and gets a fright when it’s an ‘x-ray’ lens.
Characters: One character seems happy enough playing with an action figure until he hears the other character laughing and enjoying himself very much. He then gets jealous and upset when he cannot play with his toy. The other character seems very happy and is enjoying himself, we can see this through is happy facial expressions and the giggling sound he is making. Furthermore, his body language shows that he is happy as he is open and is moving around a lot.
Misce en scene:
The lighting is very bright creating a harmless, light hearted atmosphere. This is because it involves children playing and enjoying theirselves.
The child’s clothing is very basic and childlike, for example, a baseball cap and dungarees. This conveys a light hearted atmosphere and reiterates the child-like story. This represents children in their stereotypical outfits.
The setting is in a garden, furthermore suggesting the children playing genre.
The facial expressions of one of the children changes from happy to sad. This happens by his eyebrows lowering on his face to just above his eyes, his eyes becoming wider and rounder and his mouth becoming closed and now smiling. When he is sad he is being shouted at by his friend and he looks shocked. The child shouting has an aggressive facial look. The features of his face such as his eyebrows are higher than usual on his face. Furthermore, his eyes are smaller and squinting whilst his mouth is wide open when shouting.

The body language of both children is playful. They are waving their hands around and rolling about whilst enjoying theirselves. However when one of them is being shouted at he is slumped down with a closed expression. This conveys a sad emotion that he is being bullied by his friend.
The props used in the short film are, toys, trees, benches, fences. This creates the freedom that children have to play outside and have fun but also the parental guard with the fence.
Camera Angles: The main camera angles that we see in the short films is a closed up to show expression on their faces.

Reviewing Existing Animation - Little Dinosaurs

How does ‘Little Dinosaurs’ attract is audience?

We began at looking at 'Little Dinosaurs'. A childlike animation about dinosaurs. From this we gained knowledge about what is included in animation. We found that we need to consider voice over, music, sound effects and setting as these features are very important in animation.

The theme of this animation is bullying. ‘Little Dinosaurs’ attracts its audience firstly by using a short simple story line that young children can understand and follow without getting bored or confused. They also do not use any long words in ‘the story’ so that un-educated small children can understand and follow them. Furthermore, the colours, setting, and lighting used creates a light hearted, welcoming effect that children can relate to and understand. In addition, the voice over commentary telling the story is said by small children, this allows the watchers to relate to these commentators and understand them better. This immediately shows the audience that this story is aimed at them as one friend is talking to the other. The title suggests to the audience that the dinosaurs involved are young, similar to the target audience. This therefore attracts the audience as the watchers will be able to relate to the characters. The storyline in which the ‘little dinosaurs’ run away to there parents when they are scared of the large dinosaur is something that all small children do at sometime in their childhood, this therefore again relates to the young audience. Furthermore, giggling can be heard from the characters, this emphasises the young audience target as immaturity and excitement is associated with young children. The dinosaurs featured in the short film are in no way scary. This is so that the audience is not alarmed and scared by the dinosaurs as they are only small children.

Reviewing Existing Animation - Baby Dogs (our biggest inspiration)

We have used this real media product as inspiration for our animation. ‘Baby Dogs’ is an animation of male dogs talking about stereotypical male conversations (in human voices) at the pub, for example girlfriends. We are using this idea for our animation however we are not using any real characters, instead we are using snooker balls that are personified and they speak about humorous stereotypical views. We realise, similar to ‘Baby Dogs’, our script must be very strong for our animation to achieve its humorous genre and be a success. Here are a few screenshots from ‘Baby Dogs’.
